Sreyashi Dey saw a lack of representation of Indian culture in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a classically trained Indian dancer and an experienced arts programmer, she decided to do something about it. Together with Professor Paroma Chatterjee of the University of Michigan's Department of Art History, Dey founded Akshara.
