EEB retreat

The annual EEB fall retreat for graduate students, faculty, postdocs, staff. The retreat committee has planned a weekend full of activities including The Burt Lake Band’s Memorial Walk, field trips, poster session, social activities and other informal fun events. Activities will appeal to ALL members of EEB, regardless of whether you have attended previously. Participation in the retreat is a great way for members of the department to get to know each other, in a first-class facility and a beautiful setting!

Weekend costs for food and lodging are as follows:

Faculty: $65
Postdocs and staff $30
Grad students: $10

Partners, significant others and children are all welcome. The cost for significant others and guests is the same as the sponsor's cost. Children are free!

Please RSVP via the form in your email and bring the associated fees to Kati Ellis in the EEB Office, 2220 BSB. Note, preferred housing is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to RSVP as soon as possible.

Vans will be available for transportation to the UMBS and a sign-up sheet for rides can be found in your email. Carpooling is encouraged.

SCHEDULE

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

Vans leave the BSB loading dock – from late afternoon until 6 p.m.

Arrivals – Housing assignments will be posted on the wall outside the UMBS office (below the Dining Hall)

Friday night social – Dorm Lounge

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

7 – 8 am BREAKFAST & make sack lunches, dining hall

8 – 8:45 am INTRODUCTIONS, Diarmaid O’Foighil and Knute Nadelhoffer, Lecture Hall

8:45 am Group photo

9 am – 10 am DISCUSSION – Department climate, lecture hall

10 – 11 am Organize transportation for Memorial Walk

11 – 2 pm THE BURT LAKE BAND’S MEMORIAL WALK – See Appendix A in your email

2:30 - 4:30 pm FIELD TRIPS – A media production company will be on-site shooting footage for segments of a film about the new UMMNH facility.

5 – 6 pm EEB MIXER, lecture hall and/or FREE TIME – wwimming, boating, organized games (i.e. egg toss, capture the flag, etc.) or board games (if weather is uncooperative)

6 – 7 pm DINNER – dining hall

7:30 – 8:30 pm INSTANT POSTER SESSION – EEB faculty, students, postdocs and researchers, lecture hall

8:30 – 9:30 pm Navigating life in EEB: a discussion among graduate students, alumni room

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

7 – 8 am BREAKFAST & make sack lunches – dining hall

8:30 - 9:30 am The great ecology vs. evolution volleyball game

10 - 11 am Open discussion for all, The Chatterbox Cafe

11:30 am DEPART for Ann Arbor

Additional information:
Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, flashlight, clothes for outdoor hiking and playing, extra shoes or boots and bathing suits (UMBS is on Douglas Lake).

Be sure to bring some warm clothing, as it is likely to be cooler than the Ann Arbor area.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be served in the UMBS dining hall.

Participants will also be able to pack lunches during breakfast on Sunday morning for the trip back to Ann Arbor.
