From September, 2020 through April, 2021, students in their first year of the Global Scholars Program worked in Collaborative Groups (CG) in partnership with NGOs around the world.

 

Each CG completed a Global Engagement Internships designed by their partner organization and supported by the GSP instructional team. We are pleased to use this virtual Global Engagement Symposium to acknowledge the important work our partner organizations are doing to address local and global social justices issues and the projects our students undertook to help advance their missions.

Global Engagement Symposium Welcoming Remarks

Remarks by Dr. Benjamin Peters, Director of the Global Scholars Program, acknowledging our global partner organizations, the hard work of GSP students during the 2020-2021 academic year, and the support of the CG Facilitators and the instructional team for first-year GSP students.

 

 

CG 1 - APNE AAP WOMEN'S COLLECTIVE

Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC) is an anti-trafficking organization that provides tools and resources for brothel-based sex workers and marginalized children in Mumbai’s largest red light area, Kamathipura.
 

 

 

CG 2 - AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL DETROIT

This year our CG worked with Amnesty International as our Global Engagement Internship for the semester. Amnesty International is a nonprofit organization based in the United Kingdom that focuses on global human rights.

 

 

CG 3 - WE HELP
WAR VICTIMS

We Help War Victims is an organization that works to aid the Hmong community of Lao after violent, often imperial, wars have left landmines, pollution, and other consequences in their country.

PEACE BOAT US

Peace Boat US works to build a culture of peace around the world by connecting people across borders and creating opportunities for learning, activism and cooperation on global issues including war, environmental degradation, and gender violence.

 

 

CG 5 - COSTA RICAN HUMANITARIAN FOUNDATION

Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation (CRHF)
was founded in 1997 by Gail Nystrom.  The goal of CRHF is to improve the lives of Costa Rican’s through programs to provide food,healthcare, health education, education, job training and work.

INKULULEKO

Inkululeko is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 whose mission is to create change by providing South African township youth with the tools necessary to make the most of life after primary school.

HIGH ATLAS FOUNDATION

Our Global Engagement Internship was with the High Atlas Foundation (HAF), a non-profit that supports Morrocan communities to implement various sustainable human development initiatives.
