We Help War Victims is an organization that works to aid the Hmong community of Lao after violent, often imperial, wars have left landmines, pollution, and other consequences in their country. It is run by former school principal Jim Harris from Wausau, Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, Jim runs a museum dedicated to displaying Laotian culture and everyday life. One way he does this is by using interviews with members of the Hmong community in Wausau about their family and personal histories, some of which our CG helped to transcribe.
We Help War Victims also supports farmers in Lao by selling their coffee in the US. Our CG reached out to coffee shops in Ann Arbor about carrying the coffee. Jim also makes extended yearly trips to Lao to help remove explosives and advocate for victims himself. Many of the villages in Lao need expert help removing explosives so they can break ground for irrigation systems. Finally, Jim does speaking engagements to raise awareness. In the future, he might speak around Ann Arbor or at The University of Michigan.
