Writing Resources

The University of Michigan offers a wide variety of resources for writers through the Sweetland Writing Center, the library, as well as the EDWP staff.

The Sweetland Writing Center:

The SWC was established to ensure that all students who graduate from LSA know how to write well. Founded on the concept that writing is central to the mission of the College, the Center takes a comprehensive approach to its mission by tutoring students in their writing, supporting faculty in their course development, and conducting research on the pedagogy of writing in order to develop the most effective methods for teaching.

Sweetland Writing Guides:

In addition to the face-to-face support that the Center provides, they have also created a comprehensive online guide with in-depth information about common writing concerns like thesis statements, abstracts, and citation.

Multilingual Resources:

The Sweetland Writing Center offers courses, writing clinics, and advising for students who speak English as a second or foreign language.

Library Writing Guides:

UM's expert librarians have compiled a list of books and websites that offer the most comprehensive answers to any writing question a student could have.
