English Peer Advising

English Peer advisors are upper-level English majors who have been trained to advise current and prospective English majors and minors.  Peer Advisors are available for walk-in and scheduled appointments in 3200 Angell Hall

Peer Advisors can help students who:

  • want to declare an English major
  • want to declare an English creative-writing minor
  • want to declare an English minor
  • have questions about course selection
  • have questions about credits

Ashley King is a Junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan pursuing a Major in English and Minor in Chinese. She is inspired by the work of strong women writers like Maya Angelou, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Toni Scott Morrison. When Ashley is not reading class, which is rare, you can find her participating in a number of different organizations on campus. She serves as the writing coordinator for the Boundless Experience, an online magazine that focuses on the women of color that attend U of M. She is the VIP coordinator for EnspiRED, charged with putting together the VIP event for the EnspiREd fashion show in January. Last and certainly not least, Ashley is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Beta Eta Chapter where she serves as the second Vice President.

As a peer advisor she is excited to help students interested in English find a path that works for them and classes that hold their interest. If you ask her English is one of the best subjects to major in because writing and analyzing in a succinct and correct manner is almost a lost art. The study of English makes you all around a more knowledgeable and versatile person.
