About
Melissa Valerie is a PhD student in the Joint Program in English and Education. Her current research interests include writing pedagogy, developmental education, access and equity in higher education, and student experiences at community colleges. Melissa holds a BA in print journalism from Hofstra University, an MA in Language and Literacy from City College of New York, and an MSEd in Higher Education Administration from Baruch College. Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, she taught developmental reading and writing, first-year writing, and adult literacy courses at City University of New York (CUNY).
