Derek Frasure is a Ph.D. candidate in English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, writing about the everyday sublime in postmodern American novels. Derek’s previously published works incorporate multimedia texts including graphic novels and television into discussions of queer revolutionary politics and feminist postmodernism. His other academic interests include: modernism, contemporary literature, experimental literature, philosophy, Marxism, and other materialisms.
Derek is also the regional research consultant and author of the North America chapter of Harm Reduction International's 2022 Global State of Harm Reduction report, as well as a peer reviewer for Springer Nature's Harm Reduction Journal. Additionally, Derek serves as Policy Director for Students for Sensible Drug Policy at the University of Michigan. As Policy Director, Derek manages the research activities of SSDP’s Policy Subcommittee by guiding members to produce complex policy reports on local, state, and national legislation, as well as issuing position statements and calls to action on behalf the chapter. He also writes public-facing summaries of drug policy and harm reduction research for the group’s Twitter, gives interviews on current trends in harm reduction and drug policy, and is working with Wolverine Wellness to revise the University of Michigan's Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy and general drug education for staff and students.
