Becky Kato

Becky Kato has been a Lecturer at the English Language Institute since 2019 supporting multilingual learners' oral and written communication. Her teaching focuses on academic listening and speaking skills, pronunciation, and teacher development. She also teaches English for specific purposes at Taubman College of Architecture and supports students through individual consultations in the Architecture Clinic. Becky’s research and professional development interests center on identity in language learning and teaching, language variation, and virtual exchange as a tool for teacher training.

Prior to joining the ELI, Becky was an instructor at the University of British Columbia, Canada working with international students and immigrants in the language classroom. She began her teaching career in Nagoya, Japan, teaching and developing language courses. She also taught EAP courses at Temple University, Japan, completing a Master’s degree in TESOL there in 2013.
