- ELI Lecturer Pamela Bogart’s Coursera Course Reaches a Major Milestone
Congratulations to Mariam Elahdan (LSA ‘26) and SriKarthik Vangavolu (LSA ‘27), who shared a blue ribbon prize at the U-M Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Symposium on April 24 for the innovative project they undertook under the guidance of ELI Lecturer IV Pamela Bogart, “Curating AI tools for language learning.” Drawing on their interest in computer science and UX design, Elahdan and Vangavolu first identified ways to leverage AI tools to identify and describe useful language learning tools. They then completely redesigned the ELI’s e-Resources self-study website to effectively highlight these resources. According to their UROP Mentor Bogart, “Mariam and SriKarthik developed solutions that will allow thousands of advanced English language users to access and critically assess the exploding array of digital language learning tools, including generative AI.” Kudos to the entire team for their groundbreaking work and for this honor!
