Online Pre-Arrival Course for International Graduate Students

Summer 2020 Registration is Closed

Course Overview

Each summer, the University of Michigan’s English Language Institute offers newly-admitted U-M international graduate students a unique opportunity to prepare for academic, cultural, and professional success before they arrive on campus.

This highly-interactive four-week online course prepares students to hit the ground running in their academic program. They learn about the cultural expectations and academic language conventions of graduate study and research in the U.S., as well as campus culture both in and outside the classroom.

Participants read articles, watch short video lectures and complete assignments. They hone and refine their language skills through online discussions. Each participant receives extensive individualized feedback from the instructor. Asynchronous course structure means that students can complete assignments at any time before weekly deadlines, morning, noon, or night.

Join other new Michigan graduate students in this interactive and engaging online course. You will build friendships and learn about resources to support you from the day you arrive to start your graduate student journey. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Important note: This course is intended for students who are fully confident that their English proficiency is sufficient for the demands of their U-M academic program. Students seeking academic English preparation should consider one of ELI's SUMMER INTENSIVE PROGRAMS.
