Walter Johnson (Harvard University), Tiya Miles (University of Michigan), and Rebecca J. Scott (University of Michigan) considered the concepts of agency, empire, and material in the history of slavery in the United States at the Eisenberg Institute's October 10 seminar. Jay Cook (University of Michigan) chaired the discussion, which included brief remarks from the panelists and an extended question-and-answer session with the audience. The seminar continued the Institute's 2013-15 theme, "Materials of History." The seminar is available online as an MP3 audio file and is accessible for University of Michigan account holders.
