The Eisenberg Institute's Thursday Speakers Series continues on February 28, 4 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, with Anne Gerritsen's lecture, "Shards for Sale: Manufacturing a Global History from Fragments?" Gerritsen is an associate professor of history at the University of Warwick. She earned her Ph.D. in East Asian languages and civilizations from Harvard University in 2001.

Professor Gerritsen -- who specializes in Chinese history, particularly the production of porcelain -- uses the pottery shard market of Jingdezhen as a starting point for a discussion the relationship between global history and local narratives. On March 1, 12 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, the Institute presents the workshop, "The Circulation of Signs Across Economies of Value." The panel features Professor Gerritsen and University of Michigan graduate students Melissa Johnson (Ph.D. Student, History) and Sara Katz (Ph.D. Student, History); the session is chaired by Christian de Pee (Associate Professor of History, University of Michigan). Link for more details.
