UMMZ and Herbarium digital records: over 1.3 billion views!
In 2018, the digital records of the University of Michigan’s Museum of Zoology and Herbarium were viewed over 1.3 billion times. Yes, that’s billion, with a B.
“The digitization efforts have a profound impact on research and educational access to museum resources,” wrote EEB Professor Priscilla Tucker, acting associate chair for museum collections and curator, UMMZ, in the report summary.
As a result, over one million records were downloaded in 2018. Read more about these and other impressive stats in the first ever combined museums annual report, compiled by Benjamin Hess, EEB museums registrar. 2018 marked the first full year of collaboration between the museums at the Research Museums Center. There are noteworthy numbers in the report that document the impact of the collections and associated activities for biodiversity research and education in Michigan and around the world.
