The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is pleased to introduce our new graduate coordinator, Cindy Carl, and new contract and grant specialist, Kendra Renner.

Carl joins us from EEB’s front desk where she was senior secretary for four years, which she said provided great training for her new role. Carl supports the EEB graduate programs, and is responsible for all aspects of recruitment, admission, and student progress in the Ph.D. and master’s programs.

Previously, she worked in communications and development for St. Mary Student Parish, Ann Arbor. She is looking forward to working with EEB’s graduate students. In her free time, Carl likes to "read and walk, though not at the same time," she said with her trademark sense of humor. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends.

She and her husband, Leon, have two married sons, Michael (Erin) and Andy (Christina), and their first grandbaby, Davey (Michael and Erin’s).

Renner is looking forward to working with the faculty, lab staff and students to submit research proposals. She provides technical assistance on all aspects of pre- and post-award administrative processes. She is a pleasant addition to the office.

Renner has been with the University of Michigan for over 20 years. Most recently, she held positions within the Internal Medicine Hematology/Oncology Clinical Trials Finance Office, the former General Clinical Research Center, and as a customer service representative for Accounts Payable. Renner got her start at U-M as a clinic clerk for the School of Dentistry. She spent 17 years doing post-award reconciliation and six years doing pre-award submissions, primarily for the School of Dentistry. Previously, Renner was a dental assistant in private practice, in Ann Arbor and in her hometown of Tecumseh, Mich.

In her spare time, she loves gardening, working in her yard and playing with her four-legged furry "babies," Maxwell, Izzy, and Bella. She has an 18-year-old son, Trevor.

Stop by the administrative offices in 2019 Kraus Natural Science to welcome Carl and Renner to their new EEB roles.
