Transfer Credits

Current U-M students and incoming transfer students can check course equivalencies by using the transfer credit equivalency search page. Transfer credit may be posted as an exact equivalent to a U-M course, as departmental credit, or interdepartmental credit. Please note this search page is to be used as a general guideline, all transfer credits intended for Economics course credit will still need to be evaluated by one of our faculty advisors. Please note that students must take a total of 12 credits in residence including 401, 402, and one 400-level class with 401 or 402 as a prerequisite. See below for more details.

How to Transfer a Course

  1. Reveiw the FAQs below!
  2. Submit your transcripts to the Credit Evaluators at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    • Hard copies can be mailed to: 
      • 300 Student Activities Building, 515 East Jefferson, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1316
    • Electronic copies can be sent to: transcripts@umich.edu
  3. Obtain a detailed syllabus for your course(s) from the instructor or institution (these can be in hard copy or electronic) Note: Incomplete or missing information may cause a delay in the review process.
    • A detailed syllabus includes*:
      • Instructor’s name,
      • Term class was offered,
      • Prerequisites (if any)
      • Textbook used (if any),
      • Basis of grading (exams, quizzes, papers, etc.)
      • A day-by-day schedule of topics covered (i.e., what you covered each time you met in class)
  4. Make an appointment** with one of our Economics Faculty Advisors
    • Once the appointment has been made, you can forward the advisor any electronic versions of syllabi you have, otherwise be sure to bring the hard copies with you to your appointment!

*If your syllabus does not contain all the information listed above please still provide it to your advisor, they will help you with next steps from there. If you do not have a formal syllabus, please let your advisor know and they will discuss your options with you. 

**Prospective students may not be able to make an appointment through our advising appointment system. Students who encounter issues accessing the system should email econundergradoffice@umich.edu.
