Warren C. Whatley is professor emeritus of economics at the University of Michigan and an expert on the economic history of Africa and African Americans in the United States. Articles have appeared in the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Economic History, Exploration in Economic History, and the Journal of Labor Economics, among others. He has published two books and numerous book chapters. He served as associate dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Study at the University of Michigan, on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic History and Explorations in Economic History, and as President of the National Economic Association.
