The NBER Pre-doctoral Fellowship on the Economics of an Aging Workforce is intended to encourage research on labor market activity by older workers and is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Dhiren received one of four awards for a project entitled, “What are the Labor Supply and Mobility Effects of Lost Retirement Income? Evidence from Widespread Pension Freezes.” Using administrative data on firms and workers, his research exploits changes in employer sponsored benefits to study both observable and latent factors that affect the labor force participation of older Americans.

This award was granted to three other students: Jacob Berman (UCLA), Emilie Jackson (Stanford), Adrienne Sabety (Harvard). This NBER fellowship provides up to $12000 in tuition support and $27,500 in stipend support as well as a $7,500 research fund to support the costs of data acquisition and travel to professional meetings. Dhiren will also be invited to NBER Summer Institute meetings in Labor Studies and in Aging.

Dhiren graduated from Grinnell College with a BA in Economics and worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Chicago before starting his PhD at Michigan in 2013.

Congratulate Dhiren on this fellowship!
