The Michigan Department of Economics is happy to welcome Min Park as an Assistant Professor! Min is interested in labor economics, public economics, and especially the economics of education, especially how much people decide to invest in education (both for themselves and others) and how people respond to educational policies.
Before she came to Michigan, Min completed a B.A. and M.A. in Economics at Seoul National University in Korea. After that, she attended the University of Wisconsin to complete her Ph.D. and worked at Yale’s Broad Center as a Postdoc. She has also done research with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, the Korea Development Institute, and the Institute for Research on Poverty.
So far, Min has really enjoyed her time at Michigan, pointing out the support and feeling of community she has received from the rest of the department. “The way people give feedback is very genuine and nice, while still being sharp,” she said. Additionally, the fact that Michigan has so many other strong departments is very beneficial for research. As a researcher whose work straddles many different fields, Min is grateful to be able to go across the street to the School of Education or down to the Ford School of Public Policy and get easy access to intelligent, accomplished starters.
Outside of her work as a professor, Min’s hobbies include running and meditating “to survive.” She also tries to read, although she often returns to economics to gain motivation and insights for her own works. For Fall 2025, she will be teaching ECON 325: Economics of Education.
