The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy hosted this conference as one of the highlights of the school's year-long centennial celebrations.

Poverty, Policy, and People, organized by Maria Cancian and Mary Pattillo, celebrated and explored the contributions to scholarship and professional development of the University of Michigan's Research and Training Program on Poverty and Public Policy, directed for a quarter of a century by Professor Sheldon Danziger. Danziger began his tenure as President of the Russell Sage Foundation in August 2013.

The conference featured four research panels on the topics of: poverty and welfare, race and immigration, inequality and mobility, and children and families.

Several Economics doctoral students and alumni presented at the conference.
