The University of Michigan Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences was ranked as having the best geology graduate program in the country in 2010, according to a survey recently released by U. S. News & World Report. In addition to the top ranking in geology, the Department was also recognized for its graduate programs in geochemistry (#4) and paleontology (#5), leading the Department to top five rankings in three of the four specialties rated this year. The Department was ranked the ninth best overall graduate program in Earth Sciences nationally. In addition to the above specialties, the Department has active graduate programs in global change, geophysics, mineralogy, and oceanography.
