Robert Blair a native of Maumee, Ohio graduated with an M.S. in Economic Geology from the U of M in 1960. After working a short period as a glaciologist/petrographer( Ward Hunt Ice Shelf)  Bob was employed as a geologist at the Climax mine of the then Climax Molybdenum Company, working for Dr. Stuart Wallace a noted U of M graduate. A subsequent move to the Red Mtn. project and the Urad mine near Empire CO, was climaxed some 4 years later by the discovery of the worlds second best , and deepest, molybdenite deposit------now the Henderson mine.  Dr, Stuart Wallace, Dr. Bruce McKenzie, also a U o M graduate and Robert Blair are credited with this major, new(1965) , paradigm changing discovery which subsequently resulted at that time in all  UG HG porphyry Mo and Cu exploration by the world’s  major companies,---------moving from search depths of 2000-3000 feet to as much as 5000-6000 feet.  Subsequent to Climax Bob joined the Minerals Division of Getty Oil as senior technical specialist , until it was acquired by Texaco Oil in 1987. During this period Bob served on the U of M Alumni Advisory Board from 1982-1986 during the tenure of notable  AAB members such as John Greene and John Amoruso. Also during this period at Getty Minerals Bob headed the team that developed the significant gold resources at the historic Mercur(1890-1910) mine south of the Bingham Canyon copper mine; Mercur, the first micron gold, or now styled “Carlin-type” gold deposit to be mined in the Great Basin-----was placed into production by Getty Minerals in 1987. Bob joined Cyprus Minerals in 1989 as Chief Geologist, taking early retirement in 1999  when Cyprus Amax was acquitted by Freeport McMorran. From 1999- 2014  Bob  worked or consulted for juniors and majors on a steady basis in localities around much of the world, including a three year period as VP Exploration during the redevelopment of the major Kitsault molybdenum deposit in N BC.  Since 2014  Bob has served as the  full time outside geologic consultant to the major ,gold-streaming company, Sandstorm Gold of Vancouver. Bobs other outside geologic interests during the last 6 years have focused on developing grass roots gold prospects in the Lesser and Greater Caucasus Ranges of the Republic of Georgia.
