Giving BlueDay 2021 has come to an end with record-setting results. Total for the day is $153,536 ($150,536 from 78 donors, plus challenge awards totaling $3000). We thank our alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends for their support on Giving BlueDay and throughout the year.
Our Funding Priorities
After a year of virtual classes, including virtual field camp in 2020, we are excited that the College of Literature, Science and the Arts has approved the opening of Camp Davis for in-person classes this summer, along with several other small, residential experiential learning opportunities. Increased rates of vaccination are buoying optimism for a smooth summer field camp, but we are still preparing with a variety of precautions, including limiting our offerings to upper-level courses required for majors and only having a single class in Camp at a given time. Despite the enthusiasm for returning to in-person learning and the gorgeous setting of Camp Davis, this past year has been a challenging one for many of our students, with financial hardships brought on by expenses associated with virtual learning, pandemic-related job losses, and family hardships. We are keenly aware of the need to increase financial support for students attending Camp Davis courses this summer, and we plan to focus all Giving Blue Day donations to the Camp Davis Strategic Fund to that purpose.
Please consider a gift to support students return to in-person learning at Camp Davis this summer.
Earth & Environmental Science Strategic Fund:
Gifts to Earth & Environmental Science Strategic Fund will be used to support groundbreaking research and teaching initiatives that are not funded by traditional channels. Funds could be used for “state-of-the-art” scientific equipment or technology upgrades for research and learning, seed money for faculty proposals for promising research or teaching ideas, post-doctoral training, or other opportunities to support our research and teaching mission. Gifts to the Strategic Fund will support the Department’s research-related programming and teaching needs.
