As of July 1, 2023, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) has officially transitioned leadership, as Dr. Julia (Julie) Cole takes the reigns as department chair. Dr. Cole replaces Dr. Marin Clark, who served her term as department chair from 2018 to 2023. Dr. Clark will continue to hold her position as professor.

There have also been a number of other promotions, awards, and changes to our faculty and staff as of late. Michigan Earth lecturer Michela Arnaboldi has been selected as one of the three Collegiate Lecturers for the Ann Arbor Campus for the 2023-24 academic year. You can read more about Dr. Arnaboldi's award and the other recipients here.

In a similar vein, Dr. Gregory Dick has been officially named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences. He receives this for his outstanding teaching and engagement with department outreach and programming. Dr. Dick has served as a teacher, associate chair, and undergraduate mentor within Michigan Earth. He also runs Earth Camp, a summer program for high school students in Wolverine Pathways. He has provided transformative leadership to cultivate a more societally relevant, diverse, and inclusive space

Lastly, LSA has approved our request to hire Anders Kiledal as an Assistant Research Scientist. Anders worked as a post-doc within Michigan Earth prior to his hire as a research scientist.

Join us in congratulating all of these hardworking faculty and staff members!
