Upper Peninsula Mineralogy Field Trip
During the last week of September 2014, Jackie Li's Earth 315 class enjoyed a mineralogy field trip to the Upper Peninsula where they visited the Seaman Museum, Quincy Mine hoist and museum, Calumet float copper display, and the Eagle Mine research facilities. Students collected specimens at the Bumbletown Hill and Seneca Mines in Houghton and the Champion Mine in Marquette. After seeing spectacular fall foliage, giant stromatolites, classical pillow basalts, we posed for the group photo on a beautiful outcrop of banded iron formation (BIF).
