Lecturer II in Afroamerican and African Studies; Intermittent Lecturer in Comprehensive Studies Program
A native speaker of Hehe and Swahili languages, Marko J. Mwipopo comes from Mafinga, Tanzania. He earned his B.A with Education from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in 2004. He then received both his M.A in Language Teaching Specialization and Ph. D in Education from the University of Oregon, USA in 2007 and 2016 respectively. Between the years, he taught Swahili to both high school and college students, mainly from all over the US. He currently teaches the Swahili language as a lecturer in the Department of African-American and African Studies(DAAS). His interests include Swahili language teaching and assessment, teaching about: bilingual education, education for indigenous people, democratic education,indigenous people’s education, and qualitative research methods.
