My favorite thing about teaching in CSP is...
...working closely with students from underrepresented communities in STEM, and helping those students access resources–both internal and external–that will deepen their connection to and understanding of mathematics. Whether mine is the last class they’ll take, or a springboard to a future in STEM, I enjoy helping students connect to the material in creative ways, often inspired by their own interests, or current pop-cultural events!
From my classes, incoming students can expect...
...to join an environment that fosters community and scholarship. I like to think of my classes as small family units where the success of the class relies on everyone participating as both teachers and learners. There is no competition in this class - we're all in this together.
Students can also expect my full attention - provided that they are willing to put forth the effort. Mathematics is not learned by watching someone else do the work, but by taking time to process the information and challenge yourself with what you know and understand.
My favorite piece of advice for undergraduate students is...
...go to office hours! If you have a question, ask. Don't sit in silence thinking you are the only one with your question. Asking questions shows your curiosity and your hunger for deeper understanding.
In my free time, I enjoy...
...garment sewing, making wheel-thrown pottery, traveling to other countries, roller skating, and biking.
