My favorite thing about teaching in CSP is...

...that the dynamic closely models the village environment that I experienced as a student at two HBCUs. CSP students appreciate the nurturing environment we create in CSP and feel empowered to take ownership of their education. Faculty in CSP are committed to students’ overall achievement,  not just their academic successes. The connectivity and camaraderie among the staff, administration, and faculty are unmatched. The CSP math faculty operate as a unit, equally supporting each other and all students enrolled in our sections.

From my classes, incoming students should expect...

...that I will meet them where they are; I respect any challenges my students may have and will help them meet those challenges.  In my classroom, I foster students building strong networks with their classmates and try to provide a physically comfortable and emotionally safe space. Students have access to my support outside of the classroom through a variety of channels, such as phone calls, text messages, and videoconferencing, even in the evenings and on weekends. A high level of accessibility was valuable to my own success as an undergraduate, so I try to replicate that for my students.

My favorite piece of advice for undergraduate students is...

...to not feel pressured to decide what you want to do, who you want to be, or a profession based on just 18 years of life experience! Be open to embracing all facets of your undergraduate experience. College is more than just academics; it’s your training ground for adulthood. Take advantage of all your resources and have a variety of experiences. Focus on building time management skills early and set your sights on ever-increasing goals.

In my free time, I enjoy...

...arts and entertainment, such as live theater, music, spectator sports, etc. I also enjoy extensive traveling and vacationing with friends and family. In my quiet time, I enjoy reading (sci-fi is my choice of genre) and cooking.
