While it is sad to see Joseph leave Complex Systems, it is exciting to see him take the next step in his academic career.

Charlie Doering believed very strongly in the value of having post-doc's in our midst and went to extraordinary measures to ensure we were able to secure additional post-docs at every opportunity. Joseph was the most recent post-doc championed by Charlie before his passing.

With the addition of Joseph to our group, we were able to offer the popular CSCS Minor core course 'Complex Systems 270 - Agent Based Modeling' in both the Fall and Winter terms for the first time. Students pursuing the Complex Systems Minor therefore had a much easier time working the requirements into their schedules.

We also want to congratulate Professor Johnson on another recent honor. Joseph was just recognized on February 11, 2022 by the 'Mathematically Gifted and Black' organization as one of their 2022 honorees. On their website you can read about his journey in Math, and also see other honorees. In the interview Joseph comments on systemic hurdles but offers:

Joseph, who is not a huge fan of cold weather, commented that this latest move continues his trajectory up ... North. He has moved from Akron to Chicago, to Ann Arbor and now WAY UP to Northfield, Minnesota. We wish you luck and a warm parka.
