Andrew Forche wins first ever Rick Riolo Memorial Fund Prize!

With his project “Modeling Policies to Mitigate an Epidemic and the Role of Non-Compliance” Andrew Forche is our inaugural winner!
Andrew Forche

After a very emotional fundraising effort in 2018, friends, colleagues, family and especially students of Rick ('Mario' to some!) very generously gave more than the $25,000 needed to start an endowed fund in Rick's name. See the articles at bottom to learn more about Rick and the establishment of this prize.

The Center for the Study of Complex Systems is pleased to announce that Andrew Forche is the recipient of the first Rick Riolo Memorial Fund Prize.

The review committee was impressed with Andrew Forche's project “Modeling Policies to Mitigate an Epidemic and the Role of Non-Compliance” which he describes as "agent-based modeling and machine learning used to learn how to apply virus response strategies in a way that protects both the population and the economy". Andrew completed this research to fulfill the Capstone Project requirement needed to complete his degree.

Andrew is a senior in The College of Engineering - Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program and will graduate this spring with a job already lined up as a software engineer. Andrew is the recipient of a $1000 cash prize (and some great CSCS swag!). Congratulations Andrew!

The committee received several excellent submissions. For this reason, they decided in this inaugural year to also award a $500 second prize to Jingyi Gao for her excellent  project “Generating a Fractal Tree.” Congratulations Jingyi!
