Here's what WISE RP sophomores say about the WISE RP:
Major: Cell and Molecular Biology
WISE RP has helped me tremendously throughout my first two years here. I was the only student from my high school to come to the University of Michigan. I was overwhelmed and nervous about my adjustment from a small school to a large University. I have gained confidence in myself by being a part of this program. WISE RP surrounded me with other female students who experienced the same worries and fears as I do. I have received nothing but encouragement and support from the WISE RP students and staff. WISE RP has also helped me find resources as research projects and internships. I am grateful that WISE RP has developed me into the Wolverine I am today!
WISE RP allowed me to meet so many wonderful, empowering women that have impacted my life in such positive ways. It is so convenient and great to live right next to the people that are taking the same STEM classes as you. I never would have gotten through chemistry without the help of my WISE RP study group or the support system of fellow gen chem students that helped me with the class. WISE RP has taught me that I belong at this university and in a STEM field.
WISE RP is easily the best thing I've been involved in during my first two years at the university, and I credit this program for why I've committed to pursuing a degree in science. Every single day, I was surrounded by ambitious and brilliant women who ended up being my support system, classmates, and best friends. WISE RP made a huge campus feel small, and was an incredible academic resource and social avenue through WISE-sponsored events, monthly tea times, study groups, etc. I would recommend participating in WISE RP a thousand times over. Science and Engineering are exciting but challenging paths, so when I doubted myself and my abilities, WISE women were always there to cheer me on.
Here's what WISE RP first-years say about the WISE RP:
Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering
Deciding to be a part of WISE RP during my transition into college was, by far, the best decision I’ve made since I started college! The WISE RP administration and this amazing community of fierce women has helped me get easily connected to academic resources across campus that have helped me succeed in my classes and in developing overall stability in my life. There are many opportunities I have come across through WISE RP that I would not have found easily if I wasn’t in WISE RP that have given me a jumpstart on my career. Being surrounded by other first year students taking the same courses as me, for example, has helped me understand coursework and has better prepared me for some of my first college exams. As a WISE RP first year, I feel truly blessed to come home every day to so many bright women in STEM, both first years and mentors in our dorm (peer mentors and WISE RP RAs) who have supported me thus far in helping me succeed at Michigan!
Major: Industrial and Operations Engineering
There is a special form of sisterhood that comes from knowing what it’s like to be the only girl in a Calculus class or being constantly talked over by male classmates, and WISE is full of girls who share that struggle. From study group bonding over struggling through sp orbitals and serious discussions in ALA107, to spur of the moment trips to the dining hall to make milkshakes, the girls of WISE are there to support each other always, and lighten the mood when Orgo threatens to overwhelm. I wouldn't want to spend my first year of college anywhere else.
