Wednesday, October 3, 2012
12:00 AM
2239 Lane Hall

Queer Science upends our preconceived notions of what ‘proper’ topics of science are, what ‘natural’ is or can be, how reading empirical articles and pop science as texts can illuminate sexual problematics, whether critical and empirical sexual science can, themselves, queer science, and what contemporary scientific understandings of same-sex sexuality are.

Jennifer Terry, Associate Professor of Women’s Studies, UC Irvine: "Could Inter-species Affection Be a Model for Queer Science?"

Paul Vasey, Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Lethbridge: "Japanese Macaques and Samoan fa'afafine: What cross-species and cross-cultural research tells us about the evolution of non-conceptive sex"

UM Discussants: Terri Conley, Psychology & Women’s Studies; Elizabeth F.S. Roberts, Anthropology.
