Hunting Mastodons?!: A Hands-On Demonstration

Sunday, April 28, 2013
12:00 AM
Museum of Natural History

In this demonstration, step back 12,000 years into the last Ice Age. Explore the evidence of Mastodon hunting by people who lived in Michigan! Discover how archaeologists today study artifacts and learn about the evidence of interactions between people and Mastodons. Finally, you will get the chance to make your own cast of a tool that may have been used in the hunting of Mastodons, a Clovis Point! This will help us to see how museum scientists reproduce important artifacts. These 20-30 minute interactive programs take place on the 2nd floor of the U-M Museum of Natural History. They include both brief presentations highlighting university research and engaging hands-on activities. They are suitable for adults and children, ages 5 and up.
