Writer Matthew Gindin calls Hyecho's Journey, an interdisciplinary collaboration, “a gorgeously produced scholarly excursion through Buddhist story and image-craft.”

In the summer 2018 issue of the journal Tricycle, Matthew Gindin reviews the book Hyecho’s Journey: The World of Buddhism, an interdisciplinary collaboration between UMMAA curator Carla Sinopoli, Buddhist studies professor Donald. S. Lopez Jr., and several other University of Michigan scholars.

Gindin writes that the book is “a gorgeously produced scholarly excursion through Buddhist story and image-craft.” He also notes that it is part of a related multimedia project that includes an exhibition at the Freer|Sackler Galleries in Washington, DC, and an iPhone app.
