Thanks to a grant from the U-M Third Century Initiative, the Biological Station (UMBS) is hosting new short-courses and 2-4 week extensions of Ann Arbor campus classes.
Extensions typically follow a winter semester class or preceed a fall semester class. The UMBS extension gives you extra time to do research, field trips, and group or individual project work related to the class. Short courses are special field-based versions of traditional Ann Arbor lab classes (e.g. BIOLOGY 173, CHEM 125/126).
Note: Transforming Learning classes are open to University of Michigan Ann Arbor students only. Students from any college or university may apply for our regular spring and summer field courses.
Why do this?
Expand your understanding through field trips, labs and real-world assignments that build on course concepts.
Learn how to approach the kinds of complicated issues that mark our changing world.
Potentially no added tuition -- because the credit for most Transforming Learning courses is awarded in the subsequent fall semester, likely fitting into block tuition fees.
FREE room and board at the Biological Station: thanks to generous donors, your food and housing is covered.
