Lecture: "Living with Fire: New Perspectives on Fire in Our Ecosystem and Culture"

Sunday, May 27, 2012
12:00 AM
Gates Lecture Hall, Biological Station, 9133 Biological Road, Pellston, MI.

Talk by MSU Extension Service Firewise Field Assistant, Jed Jaworski.

We live in a fire-dependent ecosystem. However, globally, 70% of our forests are degraded or declining due to lack of natural fire conditions. Jaworski's presentation will illustrate fire's role in our forest-plant ecosystems and the growing wildfire threat to our communities. He will share ways in which our forests' health and our home and community safety can be improved. Participants will learn how to create a "Firewise" garden.

This lecture is free and open to the public. It is part of the Michigan Botanical Club's "Spring Foray."
