2013 Ph.D. Marco Garrido has won two ASA best paper awards.  One was awarded by the section on Global and Transnational Sociology and the second for his paper "The Ideology of the Dual City: The Modernist Ethic in the Corporate Development of Makati City, Metro Manila", which appeared in the International Journal for Urban and Regional Research.  The second award was the Edward Shils-James Coleman Memorial Award which was given by the Theory section for his paper "Place Behind Segregating Practices: An Ethnographic Approach to the Symbolic Partitioning of Metro Manila." which appeared in the journal Social Forces.  Marco is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Asia Research Institute in the National University of Singapore.  He will join the University of Chicago Sociology Department as Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Fall of 2014.
