Though the vast majority of our scholarships are need-based, we do award a handful of merit scholarships to eligible LSA students each year. Read on to learn more about these opportunities.

Bell Scholars receive a renewable scholarship for four years of undergraduate study. Annual renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress. Resident students are awarded $10,000 per year. Non-resident students are awarded $20,000 per year.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must meet full eligibility criteria and apply on the Bell Scholarship website using the link below. Applications are open now. The application deadline is February 1st.
The Shipman Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship for incoming U-M students that show high academic achievement, leadership abilities, and exceptional talent in the arts and sciences. There is no application process. Each year, 32 incoming U-M students are invited to come to campus for consideration for the scholarship. The College of LSA nominates approximately 16 students each year based on their admissions application. All early action admitted LSA students are considered for this scholarship.
Students that receive the full Shipman Scholarship and are Michigan residents are awarded $20,000/year for four years or completion of their undergraduate degree program, whichever comes first. Students that come from out of state and receive the full Shipman Scholarship are awarded $30,000/year.
Students that are invited to campus as Shipman nominees but are not selected for the full Shipman Scholarship receive a Shipman Scholarship award of $15,000/year as in-state students or $25,000/year as out-of-state students.
Students that receive either of the two awards and choose to attend Michigan are considered to be members of the Shipman Society.
The Stamps Scholarship is one of the University of Michigan’s most prestigious merit-based scholarships and is awarded to incoming U-M students that demonstrate exceptional talent, leadership qualities, outstanding academic achievement, and a commitment to their community. There is no application, and all incoming students are considered for this scholarship based on their admissions application. Each year, the College of LSA nominates a select number of incoming LSA students to receive this award.
Stamps Scholars receive a renewable scholarship for four consecutive years of undergraduate study and the amounts can go up to the full cost of attendance.
In addition to tuition support, Stamp Scholars receive additional funding of up to $5,000 to support study abroad, community service, research, and internships during their undergraduate studies.
