Getting into the college of your dreams is a big deal. But, deciding how you'll fund your education can take just as much creative thinking. That's why we're here!
Each year, we award Four-Year Renewable Scholarships to students who need a little extra help covering the cost of their studies. The awards are made based on a student's scholarship application, their Undergraduate Admissions Application, and their financial need, as demonstrated by their FAFSA and CSS profile. Our awards are made after a student receives their initial package from the Office of Financial Aid, so we are often able to replace high-interest loans or unmet need with our scholarships.
Those who apply to the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship program are also considered for any and all merit scholarship programs available to first-year LSA students. Want to learn more about the requirements and the application process? Read on for more details.
For qualified LSA students, the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship covers educational expenses such as tuition, room and board, and textbooks.
Award amounts vary. For in-state students, awards range from $5,000 to $10,000. For out-of-state students, awards range from $5,000 to $20,000. All Four-Year Renewable Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided students maintain eligibility by completing their requirements each academic year.
The Four-Year Renewable Scholarship Application for the 2020-2021 academic year will open January 1 and close on April 1. Decisions will be sent to all applicants by mid to late April.
Update: We have extended this year's application deadline to April 15, 2020. Decisions will still be sent through mid to late April with all awards made ahead of the university's May 1 enrollment deadline.

Do I have to be admitted to apply?
Yes, you must be admitted to the College of LSA to apply for LSA Scholarships. You will not be able to access our Four-Year Renewable Scholarship application until you are admitted.
How do I verify a Friend Account?
If you are an admitted student and already have a Friend Account, you will still need to authorize it to use university systems.
To authorize the account, go to Wolverine Access. Click on the Students tab, then on New & Prospective Student Business, and log in using your Friend Account ID and password. Verify your personal information, including your eight-digit UMID, which was emailed to you, as well as your birth date.
Once you have requested your Friend Account and authorized it, you will have access to our application system (plus a number of other university systems).
Note: Once you create a new Friend Account and authorize it by verifying your personal information, it may take 24-48 hours for your new account information to migrate to our application system, granting you access to the application. You may also need to clear your cache once you have finished verifying your information.
What if I don't have a Friend Account?
For admitted students who have not yet enrolled at the university, a Friend Account is required to access all university systems, including the LSA Scholarships application portal.
If you do not have a Friend Account, you can request one here.
Once you have created your Friend Account, you will also need to get it authorized to use university systems. To do this, go to Wolverine Access. Click on the Students tab, then on New & Prospective Student Business, and log in using your newly created Friend Account ID and password.
I received an error when logging in to the LSA Scholarships Portal. Can you help?
If you are an admitted student and receive an error when attempting to log in to the LSA Scholarships portal, first check to make sure you are logging in with your Friend Account ID and password. Then, make sure you have followed all the steps to authorize your Friend Account so that you can access university systems. Instructions to do this are included above under the question: How do I verify a Friend Account?
If you still encounter errors after completing those steps, try clearing your browser's cache or logging in with a different browser entirely. If these actions don't correct the issue, you may contact LSA IT for assistance at 734.615.0100. Be sure to have your UMID ready when you call.
NOTE: If you have enrolled, make sure you are using your new uniqname and password to log in. If you very recently paid your enrollment deposit and have noticed that you cannot log in to view or update your application, there can sometimes be a delay while our systems integrate your new uniqname information. Wait a few days and try again. If you continue to experience issues, please email us with a screenshot of the error so we can help troubleshoot.
