Discover the other side of the European continent with the prestigious Samo Alajbegović Fellowship. The fellowship provides funding to a select group of LSA students so that they can embark on immersive internship experiences in the countries bordering the Adriatic Sea—in art history, dolphin conservation, archaeology, journalism, and other compelling subjects. These are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to live and learn in Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, or Bosnia and Herzegovina while building an impressive portfolio of hands-on work experience.
The Samo Alajbegovic Fellowship helps students cover costs associated with their internship experience, including airfare, rent, and food.
Award amounts go up to $5,000 per student.
The Samo Alajbegovic Fellowship application opens January 1st and are accepted until early March. Awards will be granted on a rolling basis throughout this period.
Please note: the application process is competitive. We encourage those who qualify to submit their materials as early as they can to ensure full consideration.
Fellowship applicants must be LSA students who have secured an internship in the Adriatic Sea region and are returning to U-M for at least one term after their internship. The LSA Opportunity Hub has a range of highlighted positions in the Opportunity Network for students interested in pursuing internships in the Adriatic Sea region, but students who have secured positions independent of the Hub are also eligible for this fellowship and encouraged to apply.
Once you have secured your internship in the Adriatic Sea region, you must complete and submit an LSA Internship Scholarship application. Follow the link below to get started. There are three steps.
Step one: Applicants must first complete the General Application and select “International Internship” when asked to which scholarship programs you are applying.
Step two: Once the General Application has been completed and submitted, applicants will then be directed to complete and submit the International Internship Conditional Application.
Step three: Finally, after submitting the International Internship Conditional Application, applicants will locate the Samo Alajbegović Fellowship Application under the “Opportunities Tab” and complete all associated essay questions.
All three parts of the application must be completed and submitted for you to be considered for the fellowship. If you have any questions about the funding application process, please contact us.
