Admission to the Residential College is available to any prospective student who has first been accepted to the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA). There is no additional application, essay, or interview required of applicants to the RC. Future RC students self-select their enrollment in the Residential College. Your interest and passion for an invigorating liberal arts experience is your ticket in!
Each fall, we confirm a maximum of 250 admitted LSA students into a new class of RC-ers. The majority of these students are first years, while some are transfer students with 40 or less transfer credits.
What Does Self-Selecting Look Like?
Future RC students may indicate interest in the RC directly on the Common Application or Coalition Application by selecting the Residential College as their "Program of Study." This selection does not impact potential admission to UM-LSA.
These applicants will be contacted by the RC Admissions Office via email within three weeks of admission to confirm their interest. This completes the first step to join the RC.
Students admitted to LSA who did not indicate the RC on the Common Application or Coalition Application are still able to join the RC. To confirm interest in joining the RC and complete the first step to join the incoming class, fill out the form below.
RC enrollment is secured by successful completion of the first step and payment of the UM-LSA enrollment deposit by May 1st. RC placements are confirmed on a first come, first serve basis until the cap of 250 students is reached.
What Happens Next?
You will receive email confirmation from the RC Admissions Office and your official RC enrollment letter in the mail.
You will be contacted by the UM Housing Office (HIO) and by the UM Office of New Student Programs in the spring. It is necessary to complete the HIO and ONSP online application forms in a timely manner to ensure correct Housing placement and Orientation session. During the summer, you will attend an RC Orientation session, receive advising, and register for your fall UM course schedule.
