Graduation 2019

Congratulations, class of 2019! You're almost to the finish line. Here are some important steps to successfully close out your final semester with us at U-M/RC:

In order to have your name appear in the LSA Commencement Book (a favorite graduation souvenir), you'll need to apply to graduate in Wolverine Access by Monday, March 18.

As a reminder,

Here's the four-step process for reducing panic and hassles as you attempt to graduate:

1) Schedule appointments with all of your major and minor advisors to obtain releases (releases document what courses you need, if any, to complete the major/minor).

2) Schedule a Senior Audit with an RC Senior Auditor (David Burkam, Janet Shier or Jennifer Myers) by calling 647-2745, stopping by 1813 EQ or online after you've completed you major and minor releases.

3) Apply to graduate (usually during your senior audit).

4) Complete all the unfinished requirements as detailed in your audits.

Detailed information about the RC's Graduation ceremony (tickets, format, etc) will be coming soon!

Message to RC Seniors sent 3/11/19:

In case you did not know, every year, the RC has its own AWESOME commencement  ceremony in addition to that of LSA. This year, we will celebrate those students who graduated in December 2018 as well as those who will graduate in April and August 2019.  The RC ceremony is at 2 pm on Saturday, May 4 at Lydia Mendelssohn Theater.  (The LSA ceremony will be held earlier that same day; you and your families may choose to attend either or both ceremonies.  You’ll be getting information from other sources about the LSA commencement ceremony; this email will describe ours.)

How it Works:

Yes, it's true that each RC student has about 1 minute to say, do, recite, sing, act-out, whatever you want on the stage. Yes, it’s also true that you needn’t feel compelled to wear a cap and/or gown. While weather and parental sensibilities might require that you wear some sort of clothing, we don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what you wear. And finally, yes, after the ceremony, we all proceed from Mendelssohn to EQ for a reception at which all are welcome.

Our commencement usually lasts until 4:30 or 5pm, and the reception lasts another hour or so.  There will be snacks and punch at the reception; so if you have dinner/cocktail plans for afterwards, you’ll want to make your reservations for about 6 or 7pm.

How You Get To That Place

Seating at the Mendelssohn is limited, so your guests will need tickets to attend the ceremony. RC commencement tickets will become available in Academic Services, 1813 East Quad,  at 8:30 am on Monday, April 8. Each student may have two tickets to begin with.  You will have until 5pm on Friday, April 12 to pick up your first two tickets. After that two weeks, you may pick up extra tickets, on a first come/first served basis, until Friday, May 3 at 3pm. Of course you, as the graduate, do not need a ticket.

All tickets are first come/first served:  we will not take “reservations” or hold tickets. If you can't get to East Quad to get your tickets, you may request that a friend pick them up for you.

A commencement invitation postcard will soon be sent to your family at the address provided in MPathways.

Finally:

If you have not yet had a senior audit with an RC advisor, now is the time to do so. (Make sure you have your major and minor audits first, though.) If you plan to graduate in May, or August please contact Academic Services in 1813 EQ (763-0032) for a senior audit appointment.

If you want your name to appear in the RC Commencement Program, you must apply to graduate on Wolverine Access no later than Friday, April 12.

If you are  going to stay around for an extra semester or two, but still want to walk with your cohort, let Charlie (clmurph@umich.edu) know by Friday April 12,  and he'll get your name in the program.
