General Information for Incoming RC Students

Information for students in the class of 2023 has not yet been finalized. When it has, we will publish that on this page. In the meantime, below is the information for the class of 2022.

Move-In
Move-in for first year RC students is Wednesday, August 29th. Keep an eye out for an email in August to sign up for your move-in time slot!

East Quad/Housing
All incoming first year RC-ers “room blind” if living in a double. You may request a single or a double when filling out your Housing application. We recommend having a roommate your first year in the RC! It’s a great way to get to know more of the RC community.

You will receive information about your roommate in an email to your UM account in mid-late August.

If you have not done so already, be sure to fill out your Housing application! Indicate you are an RC student to ensure correct placement in RC community housing. You will receive your Housing application to your UM email account.

Orientation
We’re excited to meet you soon for Summer Orientation right here in East Quad! You can sign up for Summer Orientation from a selection of dates provided in an email to your UM account.

During Summer Orientation, you will spend Day I focused on LSA student experiences. On the afternoon of Day II, you will meet with fellow incoming RC-ers to learn more about the RC from your RC Academic Services Team. You’ll also meet with RC Peer Advisors for a scavenger hunt, dinner, and advice on picking out courses. On the morning of Day III, you’ll register for courses with an RC Academic Advisor.

Confused about how many RC courses to take your first semester? Don’t worry! RC Orientation will help with answer that! It might help to start taking a peek at the LSA Course Guide you’ll receive in the mail. However, if you receive a list of LSA First Year Writing Seminars, you do not need to select a course from this list. RC students receive a list of RC First Year Writing Seminars in person during Summer Orientation.

Before you arrive for Summer Orientation, make sure you’re prepared! Be sure to complete all online placement exams. For the RC, this includes the Directed Self-Placement for Writing (this includes RC-Honors students), Math, and Spanish (if applicable). Don’t forget to submit your MCard Photo, too!
