Emanuel Gull, Assistant Professor and computational condensed matter physicist, has received an Honorable Mention this year for the Hermann Kuemmel Early Achievement Award in Many-Body Physics, for his development of quantum Monte Carlo methods and their applications to superconductivity. The citation reads: "for the development of the Continuous-Time Auxiliary-Field Quantum Monte Carlo Method and for its use in understanding the interplay of the pseudogap and superconductivity in the Hubbard model".

Kai Sun, Assistant Professor and condensed matter physicist, also received an Honorable Mention for the Kuemmel Award this year, for "seminal contributions" to the topological theory of strongly-correlated materials such as high-temperature superconductors. His citation reads:  "for seminal contributions to the theory of topological effects in strongly correlated electron systems". 

The award honors new discoveries in many-body and condensed-matter physics, and has Honorable Mentions because it is only awarded to one scientist per year. It is named for Hermann Kuemmel, a founding figure in many-body physics best known for development of
the coupled-cluster model, now widely considered the "gold standard" in quantum chemistry.
