The LSA Opportunity Hub hosts in-person and virtual events and workshops throughout the year to support students.
These events and workshops are an important resource for LSA undergrads—one element in a series of experiences during your time at Michigan. Each is designed to help you gain clarity about your professional path and next steps.
The annual LSA Internship Forum is designed to help you navigate the internship search process and learn how to maximize the experience. Past interns will share their own experiences and tips, and Hub staff are available to work with you to identify the best next steps for you. It’s also a place to gain advice from alumni, from recent grads just breaking into their industry all the way up to those with established, decades-long careers.

Social Impact Fair
The annual LSA Social Impact Fair is a chance to explore opportunities for you to affect change on pressing issues, or to gain experience in nonprofits supporting the arts, health, and beyond. Representatives from nonprofit organizations and U-M programs will share more than 100 internships, volunteer opportunities, and part-time jobs. The experiences available range from environmental sustainability to volunteer work in shelters for domestic violence survivors. The Hub team is also on hand to discuss funding resources and specialized programs in the field, including the Applebaum Internship Program.

International Internship Showcase
This is a must-attend event for LSA undergrads interested in interning abroad. During the annual International Internship Showcase, you can hear from returning interns as they share their experiences from around the world, learn about opportunities and funding resources to meet your needs, and talk with the LSA Opportunity Hub team about navigating the application process.
The 2018 International Internship Showcase is Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Graduate School Resource Fair
If you’re thinking about applying to grad school (or already have it in your plans), you’ll need insight on what makes you a competitive candidate, how to secure funding, and what to expect throughout the process.
The annual Graduate School Resource Fair gathers all those resources in one place, so you can learn more about programs and application requirements and talk with current grad students across different disciplines about their experiences. It’s also a chance for undergrads to develop their plan—outlining what the next steps are on their path to admission to law, medical, business, public policy, and other graduate programs.
The 2019 Graduate School Resource Fair is Monday, February 11, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Industry Insiders offers a fresh take on professional development events: students with little previous experience are welcome and there are no wrong questions. Michigan alums who are major players in their industries are there to help you explore the field and better understand whether a particular career is right for you. Featured subjects include sales, finance, journalism, healthcare, and beyond.
The format is casual individual networking mixed with small group conversation, where alumni will advice for breaking into their industry. Students ask questions, make connections, and leave with more clarity about their interests.
The next Industry Insiders will feature alumni working in finance and real estate on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.
Alumni Connections bring alumni and students together for conversation that’s authentic and personal.
Students who participate in these in-depth talks (RSVPs fill up fast!) get the chance to ask questions directly and walk away with invaluable information. Past alumni participants have included Pinterest’s Head of Community Operations Jud Hoffman, New York Times-published international photographer Kirsten Kortebein, and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller.
What sets these sessions apart is their size and format: a small group in an informal setting (dress code is come as you are). No resume exchanges or fussy suits—these sessions invite students to explore and understand, rather than compete.

Develop important elements of your professional identity in the Hub’s small-group coaching workshops. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including how to create and manage a LinkedIn profile that advances your goals, crafting a compelling cover letter, and tips for navigating your internship search.

Hub Hot Chocolate
Throughout the year, the Hub likes to indulge students in freebies—free food and free swag! Hub Hot Chocolate is a drop-ins welcome morning with Washtenaw Dairy goodies and tons of valuable information about internship opportunities, courses designed to help you identify and meet your professional goals, funding, alumni connections, and more Hub resources and services.

Hub Study Breaks are all about student support during finals, giving you space to concentrate or work in a group, providing free food and coffee, and setting aside areas for stress relief (in the past that’s included yoga with a professional instructor, coloring, and lifesize Jenga).
