Emily Russell

Emily Russell, a rising senior in Honors Political Science, has won a 2019 Beinecke Scholarship.  The Beinecke Scholarship is awarded to juniors who plan to pursue a research career in the humanities or social sciences.  Emily has served as a research assistant for Prof. Barbara Koremenos (Political Science), working on a study of international law ratification, for Prof. Christian Davenport (Political Science), working on his forthcoming book, Stopping State Repression, and for Profs. Christopher Fariss and Michael Lerner (Institute for Social Research), studying international environmental policy.  In the summer after her sophomore year, Emily was a researcher at the Icelandic Human Rights Centre; she presented findings from this project at U-M's Global Citizenship in Practice Conference.  On campus Emily is involved in a number of student organizations including the Michigan Journal of International Affairs and RC Players.  This summer Emily and Matt Harmon, a rising senior in International Studies, are leading playwriting workshops in Kosovo with support from a Kathryn Davis Projects for Peace administered by the Ginsberg Center.  You can read more about their project, "Playwriting for Peace," in this article from M-Global.
