During the summer, MCSPers recharge from their school years in a multitude of ways. Many students will travel around the country and the world, learning about different cultures and ways of life on the way. They pick up part-time jobs and internships, incorporating what they have learned in school to start their professional careers. Some students will stay on campus for the Spring and Summer terms, taking additional courses to fulfill graduation requirements. MCSPers also carry on the idea of serving others throughout the summer, volunteering at local organizations to give back to communities.
Summer traveling is very common among MCSP students! We have students every year who visit new destinations across the country and the world. These trips are oftentime for fun, for work, or for academic purposes. Last year, MCSPers traveled extensively, with some of our student leaders traveling abroad to Australia, Germany, India, Croatia, Peru, Cuba, China, Spain, and France, just to name a few!
MCSP students stay engaged throughout the school-year AND the summer! This video shows how MCSP junior student leader, Dan Morse, spent the summer working with Future Civic Leaders, an organization that empowers high school students to participate in local civic and political processes to improve their communities.
Some MCSPers will stay in Ann Arbor over the spring and summer terms to take additional courses geared toward satisfying their graduation requirements. Students also can take courses at colleges and universities closer to home to fulfill degree requirements. The University of Michigan and various academic departments offer spring/summer courses in academic fields, as well as global education. MCSP has had many students who participate in study abroad courses over the summer.
MCSP students are always committed to serving the community and giving back to others. The summer months serve as the perfect opportunity for MCSPers to do so, and many volunteer with local organizations across the country during summer break. As MCSP maintains year-round relationships with our community partners, students in the Ann Arbor or Metro Detroit area can find ways to engage themselves in community service outside the school year.
