Starting with Windows 10, Microsoft is moving to a model of frequent small Windows updates rather than very large updates every few years. Microsoft will be releasing these updates every six to nine months. By the time these updates reach your machine they will have been extensively tested, but the updates will be mandatory and will require a restart of your machine. As a best practice, we recommend that everyone restart their machine at least once a week, at a time that is convenient for them. If you follow this model the updates mentioned above, as well as any other security updates, will apply at those times and will not interfere with your work. Some machines involved in research will likely need some special arrangements, and your local support teams will work with you on a case by case basis.

These operating system updates will be announced in advance via email, together with any new features the update might bring. As always, please contact your local support team with any questions or concerns.
