Happy Spring! Below is this month's status report for significant projects which LSA IT is leading or participating in, as well as reminders of services available via LSA IT and upcoming maintenance of University IT systems. Feedback and questions are always welcome.
1PB of data storage - We are almost complete in our roll-out of high capacity storage to faculty (the remaining availability schedule is at the end of this news article). Up to two terabytes of secure, replicated storage is being made available to each faculty member without cost to the faculty member or department. The faculty member or department can also purchase additional storage. To request this storage, complete this form.

New and updated software titles available – To effective manage and license a broad range of software titles, LSA IT provides the Umich ITAM software-sharing consortium. Based on user request, we have recently added the following titles to our portfolio: Camtasia for Mac, Dragon Dictate, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Materials Studio, SolidWorks, Stata/SE Single-User Licenses, and webMathematica. We have also recently upgraded the following titles in the portfolio: ArcGIS 10.1, AutoCAD 2013, ChemBioOffice/Draw Ultra 13.0, FileMaker Pro 12, Maple 16, Mathematica 9.0.1, MATLAB R2012b, Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2013, and Parallels 8. LSA IT Partnership Expands with ITS Service Center – For roughly six months, Kris Sarrica, a member of the ITS Service Center, has been working at the LSA IT Helpdesk. The goal of this pilot has been to increase collaboration and knowledge-sharing between LSA IT and ITS, in preparation of LSA’s adoption of MiWorkspace. This partnership is going extremely well and has resulted in increased customer satisfaction through IT’s ability to more fully meet user needs. In May, we plan to expand this pilot to include two additional ITS Service Center staff who will concurrently service both LSA IT and ITS service requests. (Contacts: Greg Beyer, David Sweetman).
New staff to LSA IT Infrastructure Support - We are excited to announce multiple staffing changes: Josh Simon has transitioned from the DMC Web team to join the LSA IT Infrastructure team. With him transfer his responsibilities related to administering the Vignette CMS. Ryan Bankstonwill be joining LSA IT on Monday, April 22, as a Systems Administrator Senior. Ryan comes to us from UM Dearborn. Mark Champe has transitioned from Complex Systems and joined LSA IT to support Complex Systems and other departments. (Contact: Marissa Green).
International Institute to be supported by LSA IT – Effective May 1, LSA IT will provide desktop, application, and infrastructure support for the International Institute, with ISS providing classroom and event support. Desktop support will be provided through the recently-created South University CSG support center. As part of this transition, Bill Binghamand Michael Farquharson will be transitioning from their roles at the International Institute to LSA IT. They each bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and we are excited for them to join the team. Jim Sullivan will also be transitioning from LSA IT to ISS to support this transition. ITS Upgrading M-Pathways Systems - Due to system upgrades, the M-Pathways Financials and Physical Resources System will be unavailable 7 a.m. Saturday, April 20 through 7 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013. IT Advocacy Pilot - We continue to roll-out the IT Advocacy role to additional units across LSA. We are now participating with 10 units across the College. The Advocates are tasked with navigating the IT landscape across campus so that faculty and staff can focus on their mission-critical work. The initial feedback from pilot departments has been very positive. We are beginning to plan for Phase 2 of the pilot. IT in LSA implementing cohesive service management - IT leadership from across LSA continues collaboration to ensure alignment of our efforts to the missions of the College and to provide excellent service in the process. In collaboration with ITS, we are partnering in the implementation of a common platform for incident/ticket tracking, knowledge management, service catalog, and more. We are developing implementation plans for the coming months. This will enable a greater degree of seamlessness in IT support across the many IT professional who serve the College’s IT needs (Contact: Erin Dietrich, Reid Paxton, David Sweetman).
