The monthly satellite user community meet-up is on Wednesday the 30th at 11am-12:30pm in room 2540 CC Little.
Agenda is as follows:
- RedHat Summit update from those who attended. Any cool new things you learned or would like to share or discuss.
- Updates to the Campus RedHat License and the possibility/probability of a new Satellite server maintained by LSA and ITS.
- Discussion of RedHat training. With Satellite 6 on the horizon and the hopes to implement it "soon," does it make sense to spend the time and resources better learning how Satellite 5 works with an on-site course, or would something else be more beneficial? I have some tentative pricing for the 401 class hosted onsite here over the summer. The maximum capacity is 9 students, and the cost is around $27,000. The Satellite 6 training material has not been created yet, but the training folks at RedHat say that they typically have updated training materials within a month or two of a major product release.
- Packaging notes on Unix.lsa.umich.edu. There are some resources on our wiki that go over a very basic package build. Please review what's out there to see what kind of internal training the community was looking for, or if we want something more involved. Starting here and then here. There's a two part hello world RPM example as well as an example that involves compiling:
If something more involved is requested, let's take a volunteer or two to update the notes where appropriate and present during the May meeting.
